Text with 1 note

I thought I would take the time to do a feature on a recent popular character, Mukuro Rokudo, of Katekyo Hitman Reborn! fame. He is one of the six Vongola Guardians. Originally the first antagonist of the series, Mukuro’s role would become more of an ally than an enemy to the main character, Tsuna Sawada.
How to describe his personality? Well, Mukuro is pretty apathetic towards the suffering of others and treats others as toys. He was experimented on as a child by the Mafia and harbors a deep hatred for them. Mukuro is also pretty arrogant and manipulative (He literally has the ability to possess people). He is a master of illusions, which gives him the ability to beat people down mentally. He has expressed his desire to start a world war and cover the world in darkness. Definitely not the nicest guy to be around. He was defeated by Tsuna and sent to prison. However, after becoming the Mist Guardian of the Vongola, Mukuro has seemed to calm down a great deal, though he claims to not be a part of the Mafia and still acts very distant towards them.
Can even the most villainous people change after being around certain types of people? Yes.

One relationship that has greatly affected Mukuro is the one he has with his host body, Chrome Dokuro. Chrome is a young girl who tried to commit suicide after losing her right eye & organs in a car accident. Mukuro saves her, possesses her, and gives her hope to live. Although he doesn’t seem to show it often, Mukuro seems to care about her because he hasn’t fully possessed her.
Mukuro has also changed due to being around Tsuna a lot more. He personally found Tsuna very interesting because he doesn’t exhibit the traditional aspects of a Mafia boss (i.e. violent, arrogant, etc.). At first, he wanted to possess Tsuna as part of his revenge plan. His defeat at the hands of Tsuna taught him some sense of humility and that not everyone in the Mafia is terrible.
Mukuro emphasizes contagion theory. Contagion theory states that people in groups tend to start feeling the same emotions as the group would. Being around the Vongola has given him the chance to be around a good-natured “family” per say. As Chrome, he got to see everyone laugh, goof off, and just have fun. Being exposed to a certain set of external stimuli will cause you to react in a certain way. We all have had our share of experiences where we begin to experience change being set in a certain environment around certain people.
Being exposed to a great amount of positivity affects even the most negative of people. Mukuro even admits that he’s losing his mind by asking a favor from a Mafia member, when he entrusts Tsuna in protecting Chrome. If anything, the change in Mukuro reflects the power that groups have in society, good or bad. Group influence is stronger than you think. The power of groups compels you!
