Text with 3 notes

This just in, we have another case of parental stupidity when it comes to manga. Apparently in Crestview, Florida, some crazy lady found out her son was reading manga. He took a manga book from the general stacks in his local library, put it in his backpack, and took it out without anyone noticing. Her son went nuts after reading it. The mother, Margaret Barbaree, decided to put her son in therapy and led a petition to ban manga at the Crestview Pubic Library. Some of the petitioners were confused because they thought they were banning pornography, as Barbaree told them they were banning porn.
All I can say is that if there’s one thing she needs to do is that she should reprimand her son for stealing a book. If he just took the book without anyone looking, it’s generally the parent’s responsibility to discipline their child on that. Instead, we have a serious case of scapegoating.
If your son was losing his mind, why don’t you actually educate him about the finer points of the manga? Or better yet, teach him some manners. Though judging from the picture above, she doesn’t look qualified to be a good parent. I highly suggest a good dose of family & personal counseling.
This is why I’m slowly losing faith in humanity.
